Jazz v. Knicks

Christian got some tickets to the Jazz v. Knicks game when the Knicks came to SLC. And not just any tickets, courtside behind the Knicks bench. Carter had high hopes of meeting Carmelo Anthony, but instead ran into Walt Frazier. Walt signed Carter's hat and hung out to chat with him for a few minutes, before heading to the announcer's table.

It was a great night for a young basketball loving kid!

CrossFit Open

I participated in the Crossfit open. Every week for five weeks a workout is announced on Thursday night, and then each competitor completes the workout by Monday morning. I completed my workouts on Saturday mornings along with most of the other competitors.

It was a good experience, and one that I would probably do again. During the completion I got my first toes to bar (50 of them to be exact), and was able to complete five chest to bar pull ups.

There was a huge amount of support from all the participants and gym members. My parents and Christian were able to come to two of the Saturday competitions and I'm not sure if they were impressed or horrified.

There were several friends and family in attendance who took pictures. Said pictures ended up on Facebook with me being tagged in the most unflattering of poses and angles. Here are a few of the priceless gems I pulled from Facebook.

Some Rock Springs Firsts

Bethany's first trip to Broadway Burger. In the five years we've lived here and the numerous trips to Rock Springs, not to mention her stay with us, she's never been to Broadway Burger until this moment.

Our first hike to the White Mountain waterfall. We'd heard rumors that there was a waterfall on White Mountain, it only took us five years to find it!

Pinewood Derby: Best in Show

It may not have been the fastest, but according to the judges, it was the best looking!

Brock's 2nd Birthday

Brock turned two while he was staying with us in Rock Springs. We had a fun little get together at Burger King, complete with cake and a play land.

Somewhere a long the way Brock developed a love of all things, "choo choo" trains. Bethany bought a cute train cake at Walmart, and it was delicious.

Every child managed to dip their sleeves into the cake, and the cake still looked undisturbed, which I think is a good sign that there is the right amount of frosting on a cake.

It is still strange to me how much a child grows in one year, and how we move through life with the slightest idea of what the next year may or may not bring. It's a pretty intense thought, but yet, somehow we move through life as it unfolds.

It has been a great experience to be a small part in a little boys life.

Down By the River

Cali's piano teacher lives near the Green River, so one day (when it was only a little bit cold) we walked to the river during her lesson and threw some rocks.

Carter could have stayed there all day, there's something about a little boy chucking rocks into water.
There are some beautiful houses overlooking the river, and for a minute I thought it would be pretty magical to live in one of those houses.

Carter even said, "mom, can people really live here?" Yes, son, they do. Then I pictured getting up each morning and putting a life jacket on each of my children and turning them loose on the Green River. I quickly snapped out of my day dream when I realized the implications of this dream.

So, for now, we'll have to just stick to visiting the river for an hour on Wednesday afternoons.

Basketball Season

I'm not going to lie, it was a really rough one. Some seasons are better than others, but this was one for the record books. A combination of factors led to Cali's team only winning a few games, and losing most of them by double digits. It was frustrating and hard and I know at times she wanted to quit. However, she stuck with it, improved and by the end of the season they started winning a little and losing by less.

I really am proud of Cali for sticking with a pretty rough situation. We both learned a lot from the process, and it never hurts to learn some hard life lessons at an early age.
